Jennifer Lawrence Reunites With ‘No Hard Feelings’ Director Gene Stupnitsky On Rom-Com ‘One Month Mark’ From Apple, Chernin And Sophie Fleur De Bruijn

EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Lawrence has found a familiar face to direct her upcoming comedy One Month Mark, as sources tell Deadline that Gene Stupnitsky is in final negotiations to direct the Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment pic that has Lawrence attached to star and produce through her Excellent Cadaver banner. Sophie Fleur de Bruijn penned the script.
The logline for the contemporary romantic comedy: She has never made it past a month in a relationship. He has never gone longer than a month without one.
Set to be produced by Apple Studios, Chernin Entertainment’s David Ready and Peter Chernin will serve as producers. Lawrence and her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi will produce for Excellent Cadaver. De Bruijn and Brady Fujikawa also executive produce.
Deadline first reported Chernin landing the spec after an auction over the summer that was unlike anything the town had seen for a comedy in years. The project drew interest from more that 40 producers including major production companies with studio deals, independent financiers, and genre labels that would have been making their first foray into rom-com. It also attracted unsolicited offers from studios and streamers.
High-profile actors and directors chased this project trying to get meetings with producers, which should surprise no one after the feeding frenzy. Ultimately, Lawrence was the perfect fit according to insiders; once she was on, Apple wasn’t far behind to come on to the package. With Stupnitsky on board, the studio will now aim to land Lawrence’s co-star for the film, a part that is sure to garner plenty of attention from actors around town.
As for finding a director, the search was just as thorough, with execs and producers meeting with a number of candidates. In the end, Lawrence pushed to reunite with Stupnitsky after a successful No Hard Feelings shoot. The two had wanted to work together again and Lawrence felt he was the perfect fit.
Stupnitsky’s star has been on the rise since his Universal comedy Good Boys bowed in 2019. He also went on to co-create the Emmy-nominated Jury Duty and co-write comedy features including Bad Teacher. He is currently producing the Sony comedy Narcs. He is repped by WME.
