Michael Keaton has been in the Hollywood industry for decades; however, the actor never fully fell in love with the glitz and glamour. He traded his life in the industry for a more relaxed and laid-back life on a ranch located in Montana.

While it is not known exactly when the actor bought the space, various reports revealed that the star was heavily involved in building his dream home from the ground up.

Architectural Digest reported that Keaton was heavily involved in creating his ranch home in Montana since he wanted to take a step back from the world of Hollywood. When he bought the property, there was already a pre-existing cabin that had been built there.

Keaton worked on creating his own main home, fit for his family and friends, and also made use of the cabin without getting it demolished. He spent early trips camping on the land he had bought, using a tent as well as sleeping in his pickup truck while figuring out how the house should sit on the land.

He wanted to take the surrounding area and views into consideration and did not want to do anything to disrupt the river and mountains.

He turned the extra space into a special and rustic retreat for family and friends, making sure that he combined practical rustic design with the simple comfort that he was craving from the ranch. He had a porch, kitchen, and bathroom installed in the cabin to ensure that it became an optimal space for anyone who stayed there. This was also the place where he stayed while the main home was being built. According to the reports, Keaton’s main home on the ranch took almost five years to build, and he stayed in the cabin itself to oversee the construction and planning of the home.

Keaton worked with Terry Baird to build the space, though the builder said, “In all reality, he was the general contractor on the thing." He also worked with famed architect Candace Tillotson-Miller, who worked on developing the design of the beloved actor's home, while he left the interior design to Helen Kent and Julie Iverson.

The actor’s home commonly incorporated rustic themes all over, with stone and cedar being the most common elements in the house. The house was fashioned with a large and wide porch along with a mudroom and a separate space for outdoor equipment. For the decor, he opted to display his Native American art, artefacts, and Western historical pieces that he had collected over the years.
