Serie A | Atalanta 0-3 Parma: Gilardino gets first win as Daffara frustrates Sarri’s side

Giovanni Fabbian, a Davide Zappacosta own goal and Simone Lontani’s long-range strike gave Parma a shock 3-0 win at Atalanta, Alberto Gilardino’s first since taking charge.
Atalanta went into the game 11th in Serie A on 11 points. They hadn’t won at home since beating Venezia on 12 October, and had drawn 2-2 at Fiorentina on Thursday. Maurizio Sarri’s side are in the middle of an injury crisis, with only 19 players called up. Gianluca Gaetano and Thomas Kristensen joined Raoul Bellanova, Gianluca Scamacca, Giacomo Raspadori, Sead Kolašinac, Franck Kessié, Isak Hien, Odilon Kossounou and Pompei on the sidelines, while Giorgio Scalvini returned in defence.
Parma were in the bottom three on five points after a 0-0 draw with Udinese, still waiting for Gilardino’s first win. They were without Adrián Bernabé, who picked up a muscle problem in training on Sunday, so Fabbian started in midfield and Lontani up front alongside El Bilal Touré.
Atalanta dominated the opening half hour, with 73% possession. Charles De Ketelaere was the main threat: he dragged an early effort wide, forced Giovanni Daffara into a save at his near post, then fired just past the far post after weaving through the defence. Ederson whistled a long-range drive inches wide, and Nikola Krstović scuffed a shot past the post.
Parma’s first real chance came from a set piece, when Enrico Delprato headed wide from Vincent Sierro’s corner. They didn’t waste the next one. Sierro swung in another corner on 41 minutes, and Fabbian headed home from close range.
Daffara made a sharp save to deny Nicola Zalewski just before half-time.

Atalanta seal their fate with dismal second half against Parma
Things got worse for Atalanta two minutes after the restart. Zappacosta stretched to cut out a cross and diverted it inside his own left post.
Jonathan Rowe wasted two good chances to pull one back. On 58 minutes, Fabbian teed up Lontani, who curled a superb shot from outside the area into the bottom-right corner.
Sarri brought on Eljif Elmas, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Lazar Samardžić and Javison Idele, but Daffara was in inspired form. He produced a fine save to keep out Krstović’s low drive, and Mario Pašalić headed against the crossbar from close range.
Krstović had a header saved by Daffara and then drilled another chance wide as Parma held on for a clean sheet.
