The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday urged the owner of a pet crematorium in Bacoor, Cavite, to cooperate with investigators looking into the disposal of animal remains in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said the Bacoor City Police Station was investigating the pet crematorium following complaints from pet owners who claimed that their animals' remains had not been cremated.

“Aside from the fact that flight is an indicator of guilt, if they did nothing wrong—as far as I remember, they issued a statement denying the allegations and claiming that they actually cremated the pets and returned the ashes—then they should present their side to our investigators,” he said at a press briefing.

Co said the Bacoor police chief had coordinated with the pet crematorium's owner, but stressed that the investigation would proceed regardless of the owner's cooperation.

A total of 250 pet owners have come forward to file complaints, according to Co.

Authorities are also examining ashes surrendered to the police through the PNP Forensic Group in Cavite to determine whether these were actually cremated remains.

The remains of 29 dogs and cats were found sealed in plastic bags and dumped along a road in Barangay Minuyan Proper in San Jose del Monte.

The discovery was linked to a suspected fraudulent operation by the pet crematorium.

Co said investigators were also looking into reports of additional animal remains found at different sites in the province.— MCG, GMA News
