Taylor Swift to Be Inducted Into Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame: ‘I Wanted to Learn With & From the Best’

UPDATE (Sept. 15): The late J.I. Allison, best known as the drummer and only constant member of Buddy Holly’s backing group, The Crickets, has been added to the list of 2026 inductees into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Allison has been elected in the legacy category, which is designed to honor songwriters who are deceased. He will be inducted alongside the previously announced members of the Class of 2026 — Taylor Swift, Lyle Lovett, Bruce Channel, Shawn Camp and Lee Thomas Miller — during the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Music City Center. 

 “What an honor it is to have J.I. Allison join this year’s class,” Rich Hallworth, chair of the organization’s board of directors, said in a statement. “His body of work as both a songwriter and an artist continues to endure through classics like ‘That’ll Be the Day,’ ‘Peggy Sue,’ and ‘More Than I Can Say.’”

Allison was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as member of The Crickets. He died in 2022 at age 82.

PREVIOUSLY (Aug. 11): “Today Was a Fairytale” for Taylor Swift. The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday (Aug. 11) that the pop superstar — who began her musical career as a country artist with her 2006 self-titled debut album — is being inducted into the contemporary songwriter/artists category as part of the Class of 2026.

“From the time I started writing songs as a child, I fixated on Nashville as the perfect place to be. I wanted to learn with and from the best and get to immerse myself in a community of storytellers, and thankfully, Nashville turned out to be exactly what I’d dreamed of,” Swift said in a statement. “A town that validated and prioritized hard work, determination and imagination. Where the writers show up to work every day even when the mysterious muses and the magic don’t. To be honored by this city I love so much is a beautiful thing, and I’m very grateful.”

The singer-songwriter’s induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame at age 36 makes her the youngest ever to receive the honor. She also achieved the feat in her first year of eligibility.

To date, Swift has an impressive 108 songs on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart. Of those, 37 are top 10 hits, while 10 have reached the No. 1 spot. Among the chart-toppers are “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (No. 1 for 10 weeks), “Our Song” (six weeks) “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” (three weeks) and “Should’ve Said No” (two weeks).

The nominations for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame were announced in July. Also nominated in the contemporary songwriter/artists category were Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton and Phil Vassar. Only one inductee — Swift — was elected by artists, professional songwriters and Hall of Fame members.

Also part of the Class of 2026 are four-time Grammy winner Lyle Lovett — who boasts 13 titles on the Billboard 200 — in the veteran songwriter/artist category; Bruce Channel — who topped the Billboard Hot 100 as an artist in 1962 with “Hey! Baby” — in the veteran songwriter category; and Shawn Camp and Lee Thomas Miller in the contemporary songwriter category.

All of this year’s inductees will be formally inducted and join the 254 previous electees during the 56th Anniversary of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala planned for the fall. The date for the invite-only event held has not yet been announced.
