DSWD extends P163.18 M aid to 290,076 families in Calabarzon


LUCENA CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed P163.18 million worth of assistance to beneficiaries in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region affected by heavy rains.
As of Wednesday, the DSWD – Calabarzon had distributed 253,986 family food packs and P300,000 in financial assistance.
A standard DSWD family food pack contains six kilograms of rice, canned goods as well as sachets of coffee or chocolate malt drink. It is intended to provide a family of five with food for two days.

“Throughout the disaster response operations since the beginning of August, the DSWD has recorded a total of 290,076 affected families across the region,” the DSWD said.

The assistance was extended not only to families who evacuated but also to those who remained in their homes but were affected by the heavy rains and flooding.
The DSWD said its disaster response operations are ongoing, with support being provided to affected local governments through Quick Response Teams deployed in various areas across the region. /gsg
