EastEnders star reacts to villain's violent exit: "I'm very happy to say goodbye to him"

EastEnders star Matthew James Bailey has reacted to the violent death of his character, Craig Ingram.

Viewers will know that the former police officer has been grooming Amy Mitchell in the BBC One soap, using his position of power to coerce and control the teenager.

But this week, after fleeing Walford with Amy in tow, Craig met a grisly end as he was whacked across the head with a candlestick by Amy.

As blood poured across the floor, it was clear that the character had died as Amy fled back to Walford.

Speaking to Digital Spy about his character's demise, the actor said: "I feel like I’m starting to get a reputation, following in the footsteps of the magnificent Sean Bean where he dies in everything!" he said, referencing the death of his Hollyoaks character Ethan Williams, who also met a grisly fate.

He continued: "But I do think it’s extremely important for Craig to have his comeuppance. He is such a horrible character and I’m very happy to say goodbye to him, as I’m sure most of the British public are as well!"

The actor went on to reveal that he has some new projects up his sleeve, including a film he's set to start filming in February.

While he added that he couldn't say too much about it, he teased: "It’s a true story and a relevant story that revolves around World War II and it is shooting in The Netherlands."
