It’s doll coming back to me now: Celine Dion gets her own Barbie

Celine Dion is being made into a doll, one that will be sought by fans near, far, wherever they are.

The maker of Barbie announced it was releasing a special edition doll of Dion, 58, as part of its Mattel Creations line. The toy is modeled after the Canadian singer’s 1998 Oscars performance, where she sang “My Heart Will Go On” from James Cameron’s “Titanic” film.

Dion’s doll form has the same hair style, long-sleeved gown from her performance, as well as the Heart of the Ocean, the necklace that was famously featured in the movie.

The company announced the doll in an Instagram post and urged consumers not to wait. The caption noted that “she’s limited and she’s legendary.”

The doll is the latest celebration of the 58-year-old’s career after Dion revealed she’d been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder. She announced in 2022 that she had stiff-person syndrome, telling fans in a video that the disease was causing painful spasms that it made it difficult for her to walk.

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing the way I’m used to,” Dion said at the time.

But Dion refused to allow the disease to stop her from singing.

In 2024, she performed at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris for the Summer Olympics opening ceremony with her rendition of French singer Édith Piaf’s iconic “Hymne à l’amour.” Fans around the world were moved to see the singer triumph over her medical condition.

Singer Kelly Clarkson, who was serving as a co-host for NBC’s broadcast, struggled to find the words that could describe the emotion of the scene.

“If you know anything just about Celine right now ... this is her purpose. And if you know anything about what she’s going through right now and — I’m so sorry, I’m trying to hold it together — but that she got through that, that was incredible,” Clarkson said at the time, calling her a “gold winner for vocal athletes.”

Dion returned to the stage again last month in a series of comeback concerts. It was the first of a 26-show residency in Paris where Dion gave fans a taste of some of her greatest hits.

Among the songs chosen for the setlist was “All by Myself,” one of the most difficult vocal performances in Dion’s extensive catalogue of ballads. One American fan described the show to NBC News as a “victory lap.”

“I think her belief is renewed, I think her spirit is renewed,” said Francesca Pezzulo.
