Indian shuttlers, led by two-time Olympic medallist, P. V. Sindhu, would be desperate to overcome their recent struggles and make a mark at the USD 950,000 French Open Super 750 badminton tournament that begins in Paris on Tuesday.

Q. When and where is the French Open?

A. The tournament runs from October 20 to 25 at the Arena Grand in Paris.

Q. Who is leading India’s challenge?

A. Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty and Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand are the headline names.

Q. Who does Sindhu face?

A. She faces South Korea’s World No. 1 An Se-young, against whom she has lost all 10 of their previous meetings.

Q. How does Lakshya Sen’s draw look?

A. He meets sixth seed Kodai Naraoka of Japan. Lakshya exited the Denmark Open in the first round after losing to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.

Q. What about Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth?

A. The two will face each other in the first round in Paris. If Lakshya wins his Round of 32 match, an all-Indian Round of 16 clash will follow.

Q. Who else is in the women’s singles?

A. Tanvi Sharma, Isharani Baruah, Ashmita Chaliha, Devika Sihag and Unnati Hooda.

Tanvi, who put up a fight against An in Denmark, will face compatriot Isharani.

Ashmita faces China’s Han Qian Xi.

Devika takes on fifth seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia.

Unnati meets Japan’s Riko Gunji.

Q. How are Satwik and Chirag placed?

A. The fifth seeds open against French brothers Christo Popov and Toma Popov. They are looking to rebound from first-round exits at the Asian Games and the Denmark Open.

Q. What are India’s women’s doubles prospects?

A. Treesa and Gayatri, World Championships bronze medallists in August, face Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chih-Chun and Yang ChuYun. Meanwhile, Rutaparna and Swetaparna Panda take on Japan’s Ririna Hiramoto and Chiharu Shida.

Q. What did India do here last year?

A. None of the Indian shuttlers reached the final at the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sévigné last year. The second round was the furthest any Indian progressed, with Unnati (women’s singles), Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi (women’s doubles), and Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde (mixed doubles) all exiting at that stage.

Q. How to follow BWF French Open 2026?

A. Fans can also follow all the action on the BWF TV YouTube channel.
