Phil Foden netted a hat-trick as Manchester City cruised to a 5-1 victory over AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Tuesday, October 20.
Foden, who was not part of England’s squad at the FIFA World Cup 2026, produced a sublime showing as the English side bounced back from defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the last round.
Elliot Anderson gave it the lead from close range inside 10 minutes for his first goal since joining from Nottingham Forest over the summer, before Foden doubled the lead with his first before the break.

AEK pulled itself back into the game soon after half-time with Stavros Pilios’ fine strike, but a characteristically composed finish from Rayan Cherki restored City’s two-goal lead.
Foden picked out the corner from Rico Lewis’ knockdown to add his second, before completing the rout with a tap-in.
