Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting tomorrow to discuss arrangements for the 16th Melaka election.

The meeting will be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

It will be held following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Sept 23.

The details to be announced include the dates for the election writ, nomination day, campaign period and polling day for the 16th Melaka state election.

The special meeting is also expected to detail election management matters, including the use of nomination centres, polling centres and preparations for election personnel to ensure the voting process runs smoothly.

Attention will also be given to the number of eligible voters for the 16th state election, including young voters following the implementation of automatic voter registration.

The EC's decisions tomorrow will allow political parties and candidates to formulate strategies and make preparations for the 16th Melaka state election.

The state legislative assembly was dissolved effective Sept 23 to pave the way for the state election.

In the 2021 Melaka election, BN won 21 of the 28 seats. Umno held 18 state seats, while MCA and MIC held two and one seat respectively.

Two state elections have been held this year, namely the Johor state election on July 11 after the Johor Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 1.

Meanwhile, the Negri Sembilan state election was held on Aug 1 after the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly was dissolved on June 5.
