It's a Sin favourite cast in Welsh TV thriller adaptation of popular novel The Night They Vanished

It's A Sin star Callum Scott Howells is returning to screens in a new Channel 4 thriller, alongside Black Doves and The Guest alum Gabrielle Creevy.

The Night They Vanished is a six-part romantic thriller produced by BBC Studios, which adapts Vanessa Savage's novel of the same name. Filming is now underway in Wales.

Creevy plays Anna, who is described as spiky, funny and fiercely protective of the life she has built in Cardiff, away from home.

Anna's world is torn apart when she discovers her childhood house listed on a true crime website as the scene of her family's future deaths.

Howells plays Cai, who runs the true crime site behind the listing, but insists he did not post the distressing article, while the police declare it a hoax – and yet, Anna's family have vanished.

Returning to her remote hometown, Anna must confront the personal history she ran from in order to uncover the truth.

Creevy commented: "Anna is a firecracker, sharp, loyal and carrying more hurt than she lets on. The moment her past comes roaring back, she's forced into a nightmare she thought she'd escaped.

"It's a gift of a role and I can't wait for audiences to unravel the truth with her."

Howells said: "Cai is charming, complicated and never quite what he seems. He could be the love of Anna's life or the centre of a terrifying conspiracy. Playing someone who keeps you guessing is exactly the kind of challenge I love."

The supporting cast includes Tamzin Outhwaite (Ridley Road) as Anna's stepmum Jo, and Steffan Rhodri (Gavin & Stacey) as her father, Idris. Rhodri previously starred alongside Howells in Michael Sheen's The Way.

Matthew Gravelle (Broadchurch), Lisa Victoria (Pobol y Cwm), Jack Quick, Andrew Lennon (Death Valley), Callum Hymers (The Pact) and Bella Shewan also feature.

The story has been adapted by Angharad Elen (The Light in the Hall) and Hannah Daniel (Mudtown).

Elen said: "It has been a real pleasure to bring Vanessa Savage's thrilling and atmospheric world to life.

"The series has everything you want from a great thriller, compelling female characters, a gripping and unpredictable story, and an absolutely phenomenal cast. As a Welsh writer, I'm particularly proud to see the series set and filmed on my home turf."

The Night They Vanished is directed by Geraint Todd, with Sian Elen John as series producer, and is supported by the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.

It will air on Channel 4 in the UK, with BBC Studios handling global distribution, but a specific release date is yet to be announced.

The Night They Vanished is coming soon to Channel 4.
