Robert Pattinson Says ‘Batman 2’ Filming Will ‘Pause for a Little Bit’ After Director Matt Reeves Steps Away: ‘We’re Going to Figure It All Out’

“The Batman” star Robert Pattinson has offered his first comments after the highly anticipated DC superhero sequel had to pause production last week. Matt Reeves, who is returning to direct the follow-up, had to step away from production due to a “family matter.”
“We’re pausing for a little bit and then we’re going to figure it all out,” Pattinson told the Official Pop Drop at the London Film Festival’s U.K. premiere of his new film “Primetime.”
On Oct. 5, news broke that Reeves needed to take a step back from filming; no reason has been given for his leave nor has there been any update on if “The Batman Part II” will need to shift its release date from Feb. 18, 2028.
“Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a rep said in a statement last Monday. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
Along with Pattinson, other cast members for “The Batman Part II” include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
It’s been a long journey for “The Batman” sequel, with several delays along the way. The movie was first slated to release on Oct. 2, 2026, before Warner Bros. delayed it a year to Oct. 1, 2027. Then, the studio pushed the film to February 2028. Reeves and Pattinson’s first “Batman” was released on March 4, 2022, meaning the sequel will land six years after the original.
