Lea Salonga celebrated by Filipino celebs after Hollywood star unveiling
Broadway star Lea Salonga received an outpouring of love and praise from her fellow Filipino celebrities after making history as the first Filipino to be honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
Salonga’s star was unveiled in a ceremony held in California on Friday, Sept. 4 (Saturday, Sept. 5 in the Philippines), as seen on the landmark’s official Instagram page.
“History was made today on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Congratulations to the legendary Lea Salonga, who became the first Filipino person to receive a [star] on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” the caption reads.

“Today’s ceremony celebrated not only her remarkable achievements on stage and screen, but the lasting legacy she has created for Filipino and Asian artists in entertainment,” it adds.

Present to witness the veteran actress-singer’s feat were fellow performers Darren Criss, Brandy and Ming-Na Wen, who each paid tribute to Salonga during the event.
Meanwhile, several Filipino celebrities extended their love and congratulatory greetings to Salonga virtually through social media.
“The one and only Lea Salonga! Congratulations po!” actress-TV host Anne Curtis wrote.
Broadcaster Karen Davila described Salonga as a “true icon.”

Filipino designer Michael Cinco, actors Jhong Hilario and Denise Laurel as well as songwriter Jonathan Manalo each expressed pride over Salonga’s achievement.
“You make the Philippines so proud!” Manalo addressed her.

Other celebrities who joined in celebrating Salonga were Gelli de Belen, Robin Nievera, Mela Habijan and American singer-actor Eric Nam.
During the unveiling ceremony, Salonga reflected on her journey and expressed hope that it would inspire Young Filipinos.

“There are so many extraordinary Filipino and Asian artists working today, telling our stories, playing roles we once could have never imagined being offered and creating new opportunities for future generations. That means an enormous amount to me. I hope that someday, a young Filipino kid comes to Hollywood, sees my name, and thinks, maybe I can get here, too,” she said. /ra
