Man Arrested on ‘Miami Vice ‘85’ Brooklyn Set After Brandishing a Knife

Translate

The Brooklyn set of “Miami Vice ‘85” was disrupted when a man was arrested after brandishing a knife around crew members on Friday.

The man, whom the New York Police Department confirmed as 23-year-old Alex Perez of Brooklyn, was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon after being arrested around 11 p.m. The NYPD also confirmed to Variety that the event took place on the film set, near Washington Cemetery. No injuries were reported.

TMZ first released footage of the incident, which showed Perez being handcuffed before a large butcher knife was removed from his sweatshirt pocket by a police officer. The outlet reported that Perez has 5 prior arrests, including for alleged gang-related activities, assault with a firearm and burglary.

Variety first reported that a “Miami Vice” reboot was in the works with Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan back in Oct. 2025 before the film got an official title in April 2026. Jordan will star as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs with Butler playing James “Sonny” Crockett. First look images of the two in character dropped earlier this month when filming began.

Per the film’s logline, Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ’85” will explore “the glamour and corruption of mid-80’s Miami” and is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.” Dan Gilroy penned the film’s script, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich from the TV series.

“Miami Vice ‘85” is scheduled for an Aug. 6, 2027 theatrical release.
