Marcos leads turnover of 333 housing units for informal settlers in Valenzuela

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday led the turnover of 333 housing units for informal settler families (ISFs) in Valenzuela City.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, the units are housed in seven low-rise buildings at Disiplina Village in Arkong Bato. They were built for ISFs who previously lived along the Tullahan River and waterways leading to Manila Bay.

“One of the problems we are facing now is the successive rains and flooding. Whenever there is such a danger, our home is the first place where we expect to take shelter. This is where our children should be safe, and where we should be able to rest without fear,” Marcos said.

“Here in Arkong Bato, Disiplina Village was built. This is part of our relocation program for ISFs, including families living in areas that frequently flood,” he added.

Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian said a total of 5,549 individuals are now living in Disiplina Village.

However, he said 3,306 ISFs are still living along the Tullahan River, waterways and other identified danger zones.

“It really is a different feeling when you know that you have your own home to come home to. There are things whose value cannot be measured, and one of them is having a home of your own,” he said.

“[You can now say] 'This is ours. We now have our own house. This is where our children will come home. This is where we will build memories and dreams.' Because when you have a home of your own, life is more peaceful,” he added.— MCG, GMA News
