Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were beaten 17-21, 18-21 by Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chih-Chun and Yang Chu Yun in the first round at the French Open 2026 in Paris on Tuesday.
World Championships bronze medallists Treesa and Gayatri were locked in a tight, fast-paced opening game against Lin and Yang with Treesa attacking during the rallies and Gayatri holding steady in defence.
Treesa’s heavy smashes from the back court ripped through the defence and Gayatri’s sharp net interceptions sealed some rallies but errors on flat drives and mistimed lifts made it a close opening game against their opponents, ranked 30th in the world.

The Indian duo let it slip on flat mid-court drives, where shots went wide and the shuttle’s trajectory got away from them.
Lin and Yang also blunted Treesa’s big back-court smashes by keeping their lifts tight, then found gaps in the mid-court whenever the Indians tried to force the pace too early in the rally.
To force a decider, Treesa and Gayatri fought hard in the second game but Lin and Yang pulled away from 15-all to clinch the first meeting between the two pairs.
India’s women’s doubles challenge now rests on Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda, who will face Japan’s Ririna Hiramoto and Chiharu Shida in the first round on Wednesday.
