Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat Mohammedan Sporting 3-2 to end the final matchday of the Calcutta Football League (CFL) on a thrilling note and lift the trophy at the Barasat Stadium on Saturday.
Former East Bengal forward Sayan Banerjee came off the bench to score the winner for Bagan as it lifted the CFL title after eight years. It was also the 31st title for the club.

Bagan, entering the match as the favourite on paper, was pushed back by a gritty show by the Black Panthers, who fought back twice through goals from Lalremsanga Fanai and captain Mahitosh Roy. The Mariners were caught cold close to the hour mark when their goalkeeper Deeprobhat Ghosh was sent off, reducing them to 10 men.
But Bastab Roy’s boys kept their cool to finally conjure a fightback with a winning goal from super sub Sayan.
