Person of interest identified in reported sexual assault at UChicago frat house

Translate

CHICAGO -- A person of interest has been identified in the investigation into an alleged sexual assault at a University of Chicago fraternity house, the school said in a statement Tuesday.

The reported attack happened during a party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood early Sunday morning.

A woman says she was being assaulted when someone intervened, and the suspect took off.

The school said the person of interest's identity was corroborated by key witness statements and video evidence from university cameras and license plate readers. The university said its Department of Safety & Security shared that evidence with Chicago police.

Because no charges have been filed, school officials have not publicly identified the person of interest, but they confirmed that he is not affiliated with the university, adding that he is now banned from campus.

AEPi said it is cooperating with the investigation, and the chapter has been told not to hold events or programs as the investigation continues.
