Bentancur sent off for head-butting Shaw during Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur match

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off during his side’s Premier League 2026-27 match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The incident occurred with just 15 minutes of regulation time left, when the Uruguayan clashed with United’s Luke Shaw. The verbal argument quickly turned into a physical scuffle, with Bentancur thrusting his forehead into the opponent’s face.

Players from both sides got involved and the game was paused as the referee subdued the situation, following which Bentancur was shown a red card for violent conduct. Shaw, meanwhile, escaped with a yellow card.

The events unfolded just a few minutes after Bryan Mbeumo fired United into the lead after receiving a pass from Matheus Cunha.
