In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the creation of Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has commissioned the remodelled JB Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau, Zamfara State.
According to a statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Sulaiman Idris, on Friday, and made available to PUNCH Online, the commissioning took place on Friday.
The event was attended by the past governors of the state, Ahmad Yarima and Mahmud Shinkafi, as well as Colonel Jibril Bala Yakubu (retd.), Emir of Wuse, the former first Military Administrator of the state, who joined Lawal in commissioning the secretariat.
The commissioning took place at the secretariat building, where the former military administrator returned to commission Phase 3 of the remodelling of the secretariat he built when he was administrator in 1997.
At the commissioning, Yakubu disclosed during his speech that he could no longer recognise the secretariat and that many things had changed.
“When I came here, I could no longer recognise anything. The whole state has changed drastically, and Dr Dauda Lawal has done a great work. I want all stakeholders to embrace peace, and after peace we need unity. Unity will build the state to a more enviable height.
“I urge all the people of Zamfara to support Governor Lawal on his rebuilding agenda and also work in unity. This commissioning brings back memories. I was in detention when this secretariat was first commissioned, and coming here to commission a building named after me while still in good health and wealth brings joy to my heart”, Yakubu said.
During Lawal’s address, he thanked all the former governors of Zamfara State and the Military Administrator for their sacrifices in ensuring Zamfara remained a viable state.
He also promised them that he had continued to consolidate on the job they had all done.
“We will continue to ensure development in all aspects and this project commissioning is significant because workers can work in good conditions and render quality services to the people of Zamfara.
“We will continue to invest in infrastructure to ensure the state opens up for my capital projects and improved investment”, Lawal stated.
The guests, including all the former governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, and other invited guests, toured the building to see the project.
