Emily Beecham to Lead Peter Mackie Burns’ Third Feature ‘Echolalic’ as Michael Socha, Posy Sterling, Michele Austin and More Join Cast (EXCLUSIVE)

Emily Beecham, the “Little Joe” and “Cruella” star recently seen in “Supergirl,” has reunited with her “Daphne” director Peter Mackie Burns on the Scottish filmmaker’s third feature.

“Echolalic,” which recently wrapped after a four week shoot on location in and around London, is led by Beecham and also stars Michael Socha (“This is England,” “The Cage”), Posy Sterling (“Lollipop”), Michele Austin (“Hard Truths,” “This is Going to Hurt”), Nathaniel Martello-White (“I Hate Suzie,” “Small Axe: Mangrove”) and Frankie Box (“Bird,” “Perfect 10”).

The film follows Kelly, an exceptional support worker who forms a profound bond with the autistic teenager she cares for and his mother. But the return of the boy’s estranged father disrupts their fragile world, pushing Kelly to cross professional boundaries as she mistakes being needed for belonging.

The film is written by Ben Hogan and Colin Elves, and produced by Helen Simmons, Stephanie Aspin and Chloe Culpin for Erebus Pictures, the Brit banner that produced last year’s Venice closer “100 Nights of Hero” and Luna Carmoon’s debut feature “Hoard,” with Isabella Walton as associate producer. Robbie Bryant serves as director of photography and casting directors are Katy Covell and Ollie Gilbert. Executive producers include Paula Mcpherson, Luke Woodward, and Paul Hillier. It was developed by executive producer Lewis.

Mackie Burns’ debut “Daphne,” which released in 2017, premiered at Rotterdam and SXSW, and won the best screenplay award at the Valetta International Film Festival and also best female performance in a British film in Edinburgh and Torino. His second feature “Rialto,” starring Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Monica Dolan, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in the Orrizonti Competition in 2019 and released in the U.K. and the U.S. the following year.

Mackie Burns recently directed the critically-acclaimed TV adaptation of Andrew O’Hagan’s novel “Mayflies,” starring Martin Compston and Tony Curran. It won a BAFTA Scotland award for best scripted TV drama and best TV film at the Seoul International TV Festival.
