Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has expressed deep disappointment following the Super Eagles’ 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Bissau.
The hosts seized control early when Franculino Dju opened the scoring in the 15th minute, curling a precise effort past Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Guinea-Bissau doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through Mama Baldé, before Álvaro Djaló capped off the dominant performance with a third goal deep into stoppage time.

Reflecting on the match in an interview with Completesports.com, Lawal did not hold back in his assessment of the team’s display.
“I expected the team to take the game straight to their hosts, but we allowed them to dominate and created very few chances to threaten their goalkeeper,” Lawal said.
“I really feel disappointed with this result, but that is not the end of the world because there are still many matches to play in the group. I am still optimistic the Super Eagles will top the group.”
The defeat shakes up the group standings, with Guinea-Bissau climbing to six points from two matches following their earlier 2-0 win over Tanzania. Meanwhile, Nigeria remains on three points following their opening 2-1 comeback victory against Madagascar.
