Coronation Street fans praise emotional Kit and Brody scenes in cancer plot

Translate

Coronation Street viewers reacted to emotional scenes that aired on Monday (12 October) evening, which showed Kit Green preparing for his first chemotherapy session. Kit was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last month, and at the beginning of the episode, Brody Michaelis was seen checking in on his father ahead of his appointment and asking him if he was going to "brave the shave" before offering to do it for him.

After plugging the electric razor in, Brody got to work as Kit joked: "Well, you're right, you're no barber!" to which Brody told him: "Eh, I'm doing alright!"

He later asked his dad: "Are you scared?" Kit replied: "Nah, no point is there? Whether I'm bricking it or not, it's gonna do its thing. I'm just sorry what it means for you. Only thing I can give you is a set of faulty genes..."

Brody then told him: "Or not. I'll just get myself tested when I'm 18."

"Let's hope you're not a chip off the old block then, hey," Kit then said, as his son told him to stop feeling guilty and to "concentrate on getting better".

Fans tuning in at home were feeling emotional and took to X to share their thoughts, as one person wrote: "A lovely Brody and Kit scene. Good to see them sharing more scenes at last."

Another said: "Awwww Brody. What a lovely thing for son to do for his Dad," and a third posted: "Very moving scene with Brody shaving Kit's hair."

And another viewer added: "That’s what I like to see #Corrie. Some simple heartfelt scenes of connection & emotion. Kit, Brody & Bernie."

Later on at the hospital, Kit was supported by Bernie as she joined him for his first chemo session and they talked about his childhood. Once he was back at home, Brody decided to pay Kit a visit and asked him if everything had gone okay at the hospital.

"Depends what you mean by okay. I'm not cured, if that's what you mean," Kit told him.

As Brody tried to reassure him that his chances of beating cancer were good, he ended up admitting to his son that he doesn't want to die.

The conversation ended with Brody getting upset as he told Kit: "I went through most of my life without a proper father, and now that I've got one, I need you to live dad, I need that more than anything." Kit then pulled him in for a hug as he tried to console his son.

Fans reacted yet again, as one person posted on X: "The last corrie scene with kit and brody omg i cried i love their bond," and another said: "The ending with Kit & Brody, aww."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX and YouTube.
