President Prabowo swears in Suyudi Ario Seto as new police chief

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto swore in Police General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new Chief of the National Police (Polri) on Thursday, succeeding General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Prabowo also inaugurated Commissioner General Wahyu Hadiningrat as Deputy Chief of Polri, replacing Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo.

Their appointments were formalized under Presidential Decrees Nos. 96 and 97/Polri/2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police.

During the ceremony taking place at the State Palace in Jakarta, President Prabowo guided Suyudi and Wahyu in taking the oath of office.

"I pledge that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution and carry out all applicable laws for the sake of my devotion and service to the nation and country," both recited.

As aired on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, the ceremony then continued with the removal and pinning of the rank insignia and badge of office.

Suyudi previously served as Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN). He was nominated as the sole candidate for police chief to succeed Listyo Sigit Prabowo and secured the House of Representatives' (DPR) approval on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Wahyu formerly served as the National Police Chief's Chief Assistant for General Planning and Budgeting.

The reshuffle is part of a broader shake-up within the Prabowo Subianto administration. Listyo will now serve as Presidential Chief of Staff, succeeding Dudung Abdurachman, who was sworn in as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs.

Other top officials inaugurated on Thursday include Foreign Affairs Minister Arrmanatha Nasir, Industry Minister Sarmuji, Head of the National Agrarian Reform Agency Dedi Prasetyo, and Deputy Head of the North Coast Java Authority Fadil Imran.
