Police have reclassified the death of a delivery rider who was seriously injured while attending a gig at a cafe in Kampung Jawa here on Oct 17 as a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Melaka Tengah police chief Halim Abas said the case was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon or dangerous object.

“On Oct 17, the victim, a 21-year-old man, was seriously injured while at the cafe. He was later taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment before being warded in the intensive care unit.

“The victim, however, was pronounced dead at 3.53pm on Oct 21 due to serious injuries to the back of the head,” he said in a statement here today.

He said police detained 10 individuals aged 18 to 25 on Oct 18 and Oct 19 to assist in their investigations.

The gig reportedly did not have a permit from the police or local authorities, and investigations into how the event was organised are ongoing.

Previously, claims of a death during a gig at a cafe in Kampung Jawa went viral on social media platform Threads.
