Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics: GOC President backs Ghana to shine

Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Richard Akpokavie is confident Team Ghana will perform at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
The Games, scheduled for October 31 to November 13, will see Ghana represented by 13 athletes competing across eight sporting disciplines.
Akpokavie believes the competition will provide an important platform for the country’s young athletes to showcase their talent and take their first steps towards competing at the highest level.
“We’re positive that we’ll do well, and we’re hoping that this will be a platform for as many of these young people as possible to get to the world stage,” he said.
Dakar 2026 will make history as the first Olympic sporting event to be hosted on African soil.
The Games are expected to feature approximately 2,700 athletes aged between 15 and 18, competing in 151 events.
