DJ Warras murder: ‘Trial delayed long enough,’ says judge

Translate

The murder case of popular radio personality Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock has suffered another setback, with a Johannesburg judge expressing frustration over repeated delays.

Two accused, Victor Mthethwa Majola and his girlfriend Hlengiwe Goodness Buthelezi, appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday, 22 October.

However, outstanding issues surrounding their legal representation once again prevented pre-trial proceedings from moving forward.

Judge William Karam postponed the matter to 2 November.

DJ WARRAS MURDER CASE HITS ANOTHER DELAY

Both accused approached Legal Aid South Africa after experiencing difficulties securing private legal representation.

The court heard that Legal Aid had received the case docket, including electronic evidence, from their previous attorneys.

However, concerns about a possible conflict of interest between the accused complicated arrangements for their defence.

Legal Aid is now considering appointing private practitioners to represent them.

Karam made it clear that the delays could not continue indefinitely.

“This matter has been delayed long enough, with respect,” the judge said.

The prosecution also raised concerns about the lack of progress.

The State indicated that it was ready to set a trial date but had been unable to make meaningful progress with pre-trial proceedings for several months.

Both accused remain in custody.

WHAT HAPPENED TO DJ WARRAS?

Stock was shot and killed outside Zambesi Flats near the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg on 16 December 2025.

He had reportedly been overseeing security-related work at the building when gunmen approached his vehicle and opened fire.

Majola and Buthelezi face charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Meanwhile, Armindo Joaquim Pacula has already been sentenced to 25 years in prison for Stock’s murder after admitting his involvement.

Pacula also received sentences for firearm, ammunition and immigration offences.

The case against Majola and Buthelezi will return to court on Monday, 2 November, when the parties are expected to address outstanding pre-trial arrangements.
