EastEnders airs heartbreaking Kat breakdown cliffhanger in iPlayer release

EastEnders spoilers follow for Wednesday’s episode (14 October), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer and hasn’t yet aired on TV.

EastEnders has aired a huge cliffhanger as Kat Moon suffers a heartbreaking meltdown. Kat is grieving the sudden loss of her daughter Zoe Slater and has been shutting out her concerned loved ones, especially her husband Alfie who is finding it impossible to help her.

Today’s episode opened with Kat sitting on a bench outside The Vic, plagued by flashbacks from when she discovered Zoe’s body in her bed last month.

As Kat returned home and retreated to Zoe’s bedroom again, Eve, Lily, Jasmine and Jean arrived, with Alfie having asked them to try and help get Kat back on her feet.

Having heard Alfie remark that Zoe’s death has wrecked the family, Kat joined her family in the kitchen – but she raged at her loved ones when they read out a list of things that help them feel better during a difficult time.

Kat disappeared into the Square, taking a bottle of wine with her. She later returned with the empty bottle and smashed it at Alfie’s feet, shouting at Eve before heading to buy more alcohol.

Phil found his ex-wife stumbling around in a terrible state, and he comforted her when she had a breakdown in front of Charlie’s cab, the vehicle that kicked off the chain of events that led to Zoe’s death.

Back at Phil’s house, Kat tried her best to push him away, insulting the likes of Peggy and Nigel. But Phil urged her to talk to him, and she explained that her family had encouraged her to make a list of banal things to make her feel better.

Instead, Kat wrote her own list on her hand: "Drink, cos she’s the goddess. Two, cruelty, cos I want to hurt everybody. Three, violence, cos I want to smash everything up. Four, run away, disappear. Five…"

Before she could finish her list, Kat had a realisation and returned home, leaving Phil worried about her. Back in The Vic, Mo confronted Kat about her behaviour but she refused to listen.

Kat drunkenly declared a celebration of Zoe’s life in the pub complete with free drinks. She told Jasmine she wished she was dead then started drinking with a random group of men to spite Alfie.

Bringing one of the men into the toilets, Kat purposely insulted Alfie when she realised he was in one of the cubicles. When Alfie refused to react, Kat continued to spiral and lash out at her loved ones and ended up accidentally pushing Tommy over.

Kat ran upstairs and started smashing up the living room, with Bert and Ernie watching her breakdown. Alfie finally snapped and slammed the door, telling Kat that they were going to sort things out once and for all.

How will this confrontation between Kat and Alfie unfold?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
