'Awarapan 2' box office collection day 4: The Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani starrer holds well on Monday, crosses Rs 90 crore while 'Batwara 1947' sees further decline

Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ has made an impressive start at the box office, living up to the enormous anticipation surrounding the sequel. Although the first film did not perform strongly in theatres, its music and emotional appeal helped it gain cult status over the years.

That nostalgia translated into strong audience interest in the sequel, which surpassed the lifetime collection of ‘Awarapan’ within its opening day itself. The film opened with Rs 22 crore on Friday, according to Sacnilk. Its collections jumped by around 55 percent on Saturday, with the film earning Rs 33.75 crore. The increase was aided not only by the Independence Day holiday weekend but also by a rise in the number of shows.

‘Awarapan 2’ had 9,033 shows on its opening day, which increased to 10,496 on Saturday. The momentum eased on Sunday as the number of shows dropped to 9,403. Consequently, the film registered a decline in collections and earned Rs 26 crore on its first Sunday. On Monday, the expected post-weekend drop was visible, but the film continued to maintain a respectable pace, collecting Rs 9.25 crore. With this, ‘Awarapan 2’ has taken its India net total to Rs 91 crore.

The film has also comfortably moved ahead of ‘Batwara 1947’ at the box office. If the film continues to maintain the similar momentum of Monday, even on Tuesday, it will touch Rs 100 crore by the end of day 5. Many multiplexes have tickets on a discounted rate on Tuesday which may lead to more footfall and eventually furthermore work on the favour of the film.According to reports, ‘Awarapan 2’ has been made on a budget of Rs 45 crore. With Rs 91 crore already earned during its extended opening run, the film has emerged as a hit and is delivering a strong return on investment.'Awarapan 2' also stars Disha Patani.
