Representatives from civil society groups hold banners during a rally titled “Hong Kong-Taiwan Connection: Resist Authoritarianism” at Liberty Square in Taipei last night. The rally, themed “Do Not Celebrate Authoritarianism,” took place on the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and highlighted concerns over the human rights situation in Hong Kong, transnational repression, authoritarian influence and Taiwan’s democratic security.
