Quezon City Hall declared safe after alleged bomb threat --PNP

Quezon City Hall was cleared after authorities conducted a security sweep following a social media post warning that an unidentified object had been planted inside one of its restrooms, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

“We did a sweep, not only of the CR, but the whole compound and structure of the Quezon City Hall. Fortunately, wala pong nakita naman (nothing was found),” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said at a press briefing.

The PNP said the bomb threat was sent to the Facebook page of the Quezon City government.

Police said the message did not specify what had allegedly been planted and did not explicitly claim that the person who posted it was the one who planted the object.

However, authorities treated the warning seriously and conducted a sweep. No suspicious object was found during the inspection, according to police.

The PNP also discovered that the Facebook account used to make the threat had been created only a day earlier.

Authorities are now looking for the person behind the post and pursuing charges against them.

The PNP said such false reports also consume police resources because personnel have to respond and conduct security checks that could be used for other police operations.

Because the warning was noticed at night, authorities said there was no need to evacuate Quezon City Hall employees who had already left the premises of the compound. —Joviland Rita/LDF, GMA News
