Panganiban to Risa: You’re single... I’m single

MANILA, Philippines —   Retired chief justice Artemio Panganiban drew some uncomfortable laughter in the plenary yesterday after teasing Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

At Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, Hontiveros asked for Panganiban’s thoughts on her questions to the other retired justices.

“Can I also reply in our private conversation?” the widower said.

Confusing Hontiveros with what he meant, Panganiban quipped: “Dalaga naman po kayo (You are single).”

Going along with the joke, presiding officer Sen. Francis Escudero asked Hontiveros: “Can you confirm?”

“Binata rin ako (I am also single),” Panganiban told Hontiveros, a widow.

Some people on social media were not amused with Panganiban’s joke.
