Theo James and Kaya Scodelario face tensions in The Gentlemen series two trailer

Tensions are rising between Theo James and Kaya Scodelario in a first look at The Gentlemen season two, as the formidable Glass family’s criminal empire faces its most explosive threats yet.

James, 41, stars in the show as Eddie Horniman, the Duke of Halstead, who inherits his late father’s country estate – which is home to an underground cannabis empire run by a gangster family.

Guy Ritchie’s Netflix hit also stars Skins actress Scodelario as calculating crime boss Susie Glass and her father Bobby is portrayed by Ray Winstone.

In a trailer for the eagerly-awaited second series, Eddie Horniman is seen discussing legalising marijuana with Paddington star Hugh Bonneville, who has joined the cast in a new role.

The Glass family’s criminal empire is under threat as Bobby discusses how the Duke is “evolving” in a conversation with his daughter, and adds: “We need him, and he f****** needs us.”

Despite previously becoming a partner in their drug empire, Eddie’s alliance seems to be at risk as US billionaire Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito) tells him: “You are destined to rule. Forge your own path.

“Move away from Bobby Glass.”

The action-packed preview gives glimpses of the thriving cannabis farm, as well as characters being shot in the head, and is filled with clips of violence, stacks of cash and a confrontation with a tiger.

The show also heads to Italy in its latest series, and the trailer shows Horniman being warned to “be careful” by Susie Glass.

“You want to be careful with your ‘be carefuls, Susan,” he responds.

The trailer escalates as Horniman gets into a screaming match with Bobby Glass, followed by scenes of gunshots, blood-covered characters, fight scenes, and a body seemingly lying in a grave.

“This journey seems to be coming at quite a cost,” a voice says among the chaos while text on screen reads: “Ambition can’t be tamed.”

“For a creature reared in the zoo, he’s certainly become accomplished at hunting in the jungle,” Susie says about the Duke, as the trailer draws to a close.

The upcoming series of The Gentlemen will launch on Netflix on September 3.

The streaming service has also confirmed the action-comedy will return for a third season.

Ritchie, who is the creator, writer, director and executive producer of the show, said: “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight.

“A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

It premiered in 2024, and is a spin-off from Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, which follows an American drug lord seeking to sell his cannabis empire in England.

The season three renewal comes amid recent reports that the Duchess of Sussex is in talks to make her return to acting in the third season of The Gentlemen.

Deadline was first to report that Meghan has had preliminary conversations about a potential role in the show, which would mark her first significant acting role since her marriage to the Duke of Sussex in 2018.
