Romualdez can be discharged from PGH, says hospital director

MANILA, Philippines – Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez can be discharged “at any time” from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), its director told the Sandiganbayan Third Division on Monday.
PGH Director Gerardo Legaspi made the statement after Associate Justice Ronald Moreno asked whether Romualdez was free to be discharged.“Yes your honor,” Legaspi replied.
Moreno asked: “At any time?”

“At any time,” Legaspi repeated.

On Saturday, Romualdez was transferred to the PGH from the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

In his motion filed last Monday, the Leyte representative said he is suffering from Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, primary hypothyroidism and other illnesses.
Also on Monday last week, the anti-graft court ordered PGH to conduct an independent assessment of Romualdez, which Legazpi said was conducted by a dozen of specialists.
An arrest warrant was issued by this court against Romualdez, former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co and two others for plunder involving alleged kickbacks worth P7.44 billion.
