Olympic equestrian rider Anush Agarwalla has publicly posted criticism directed towards the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) following India’s failure to win a single medal in equestrian dressage at the 2026 Asian Games.
In an Instagram post, Anush Agarwalla said that “politics has no place in sport” and went on to pose questions on why the system “does not respect the YOUNG athletes”, adding that India lost a “golden medal winning opportunity”.
Agarwalla, the 2022 Asian Games team gold and individual bronze medallist in dressage, had earlier challenged his non-selection for Aichi-Nagoya in the Delhi High Court, alleging flaws in how selection criteria were interpreted and applied.
Although the court upheld EFI’s process, Agarwalla maintained that the system was unfair and opaque.
Agarwalla, a few weeks ago, had mentioned that he would take a break from training after giving up on his fight to make the Asian Games, but returned with this scathing assessment of the EFI after a dismal end to India’s equestrian run at Aichi Nagoya.
“For the first time since moving to Germany ten years ago, I will take a break from training. I need it. But I will return, and the Olympics will be the next goal. The Indian flag will always be worth fighting for,” he had said then.
