Wheel of Time fans are still uncertain about the franchise's live-action future after how things played out for the Amazon show. Unfortunately, the series didn't manage to adapt the books well enough to win over Robert Jordan fans, and viewership numbers simply didn't warrant the show's massive budget.
As such, we never got to see how the story would've played out on screen, and certainly never came close to seeing an adaptation of the Wheel of Time's epic conclusion, The Last Battle (or Tarmon Gai'don in the Old Tongue). A proper live-action adaptation of Jordan's complete saga may never happen, though there's renewed hope thanks to iwot Studios' upcoming animated projects, including a new series from Arcane producer Thomas Vu.
Fortunately, fans will finally have the opportunity to experience Wheel of Time's true epic finale for themselves in 2027, thanks to another major release that's already generated serious buzz.
Although Amazon's The Wheel of Time was canceled after just three seasons last year, fans will finally get the opportunity to experience the story's epic conclusion in 2027 with the release of War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time. Developed by Dire Wolf, the upcoming strategy board game is the first officially licensed tabletop adaptation of Robert Jordan's fantasy saga, drawing from all 14 books and bringing The Last Battle to life in a way the television series never managed to accomplish.
Unlike the Amazon adaptation, which ended long before Rand al'Thor's final confrontation with the Dark One, War of the Dragon covers the entire conflict between the Light and Shadow, culminating in the events of A Memory of Light. Players will take control of opposing factions, recruit familiar characters, command armies, and prepare for Tarmon Gai'don.
The game features two distinct ways to play, including a beginner-friendly Hero Mode and a more expansive Epic Mode. While Hero Mode focuses on the preparations leading up to the final confrontation, Epic Mode actually allows players to experience The Last Battle itself, potentially changing the ending depending on which side emerges victorious.
The release has already a huge hit ahead of its actual launch, with the Kickstarter campaign ending in June after raising an impressive $1,166,993 from 6,156 backers, easily surpassing its original $50,000 funding goal (though these goals are typically set quite low intentionally).
According to the official Kickstarter, backers can expect their copies to arrive in 2027, with June listed as the estimated delivery date. Dire Wolf has clarified that U.S. fulfillment is expected during the first half of 2027, while international orders may take several additional months. The publisher anticipates all backers receiving their games before the end of the year, although manufacturing and shipping timelines remain subject to change.

Fortunately, fans who missed the Kickstarter campaign aren't entirely out of luck. The standard Dragon Reborn Edition is officially scheduled for a retail release in 2027, available through participating local game stores and international distribution partners. A specific retail launch date hasn't been confirmed, though wider availability is expected to follow the initial Kickstarter fulfillment period.
For Wheel of Time fans disappointed by the television adaptation's premature conclusion, War of the Dragon is giving us something truly exciting, which is the opportunity to finally be a part of The Last Battle and determine the fate of Jordan's world for ourselves.
