Woman dead and multiple people injured after bus collides with two cars in Victoria

A man has died and several other have been injured after a multi-vehicle collision in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges involving a bus carrying 18 people.

Emergency services responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash, including a commercial bus, on the Melba Highway at Glenburn at about 2.40pm.

The driver of one of the cars died at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the other car sustained minor injuries.

Police said they believed 18 people were inside the bus, including the driver. Paramedics assessed all 21 patients at the scene and transported several people from the bus to hospital.

A teenage boy was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition while a man in his 50s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A teenage girl and teenage boy were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for bus operator, Mee’s Bus Lines, described the incident as “pretty devastating” and said the team was “considerably upset by what’s occurred”.

The company said its understanding of the incident remained limited and that it was assisting authorities with their investigation.

The bus was a scheduled service travelling from Mansfield to Melbourne and departed at 1pm, according to the company.
