Police probe woman’s cause of death after body found in Brisbane unit industrial bin

Detectives are working to determine whether the death of a woman, who was found in an industrial bin at an inner-Brisbane unit complex, is suspicious.

The grim discovery came as workers were emptying a bin on Friday at the unit complex on Lambert Street in Kangaroo Point.

Veolia, which manages Brisbane City Council’s residential waste removal, said its workers enacted an emergency service response after the discovery.

“As is standard procedure, our team checked the bin’s contents before tipping and immediately stopped the work,” the Veolia spokeswoman said.

“This ongoing investigation is a matter for the police.

“Our main priority is the welfare of our team members. We are providing support and will continue to do so for as long as necessary.”

The woman was reported unresponsive about 11.50am on Friday, and police declared her dead once they arrived at the scene.

Forensic officers remained at the scene on Saturday morning, with detectives following several lines of inquiry.

It was yet to be determined whether the death was suspicious.

In a statement, a Brisbane City Council spokeswoman said the matter was under investigation, and as such, the council was unable to provide further comment.

“We are helping police in any way possible,” she said.
