‘Anna Pigeon’ Renewed for Second Season on USA
USA Network‘s rebuild of a scripted series roster continues with the renewal of Anna Pigeon.
The cable outlet has picked up a second season of the show, which stars Tracy Spiridakos (Chicago PD) as a crime-solving national park ranger. The renewal for Anna Pigeon, which is based on a series of novels by Nevada Barr, comes two days before its Oct. 9 season finale.
“It’s been really thrilling to see audiences fall in love with Anna and come to the park every week,” showrunner Morwyn Brebner said in a release announcing the renewal. “We’re so grateful to our cast and crew who brought Nevada Barr’s iconic world to life with such heart and passion; we cannot wait to get back outside for season two.”
Produced by Cineflix and Seven24 Films, Anna Pigeon has drawn decent ratings for USA: Its series premiere drew 2.35 million viewers over seven days, making it the best debut for a USA scripted show since 2018. The show is the No. 1 new scripted drama on ad-supported cable for the year so far.
“Anna Pigeon has connected with audiences in a meaningful way, bringing a compelling new heroine and a fresh perspective to USA Network,” said Michael Sluchan, senior vp scripted content for Versant Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to continue Anna’s journey with Tracy, Morwyn, [director and executive producer Lea Thompson] and our incredible partners at Cineflix.”
The Versant-owned USA is slowly building up a slate of scripted series that harken back to the network’s “blue skies” era of the 2000s and 2010s (under NBCUniversal). Along with Anna Pigeon, USA has the John Grisham legal drama The Rainmaker — whose second season premieres Oct. 16 — and the recently ordered Diplomatic Immunity, about a doctor assigned to the U.S. embassy in Rome.
Brebner (Rookie Blue, Crew Girl) and Thompson executive produce Anna Pigeon with Brett Burlock, Sonia Hosko, Todd Berger, Julie Di Cresce, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall, Peter Emerson and Gordon Gilbertson. Leslie Cowan serves as producer.
