Carrot Top released from hospital after suicide attempt, rep says

Carrot Top has been released from the hospital following treatment after a suicide attempt last week, a representative for the comedian confirmed to NBC News on Saturday.

The 61-year-old performer, whose real name is Scott Thompson, was hospitalized after the Sept. 18 attempt. Further details about the medical emergency have not been made public.

“His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy,” a spokesperson for the comedian said in a statement last week.

The hospitalization comes amid contentious civil litigation involving the comedian. In court filings, Carrot Top’s lawyers have accused singer-entertainer Brian Evans of trying to extort their client — allegedly demanding large payouts while threatening to expose embarrassing information, “false allegations” and “salacious materials.” Evans claims to have appeared as an opening act for Carrot Top’s Las Vegas show.

Following the suicide attempt, Carrot Top’s lawyers asked the judge overseeing the case to limit what Evans, who is representing himself, could file on the public docket, arguing that the release of “intensely private material on a docket monitored by national media” would cause irreparable harm.

Carrot Top rose to fame in the 1990s for his curly red mane and loud wardrobe, and has remained a pop culture figure for decades.
