Headmaster lodges report over viral video of parent confronting him

The headmaster of a vernacular school in Teluk Intan, Perak, has lodged a police report over a viral video of a parent confronting him about allegations that he sexually harassed her child.
Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said preliminary investigations indicated that the student’s family confronted the headmaster after he allegedly contacted the girl to express feelings of love and affection for her.
Alwi said the matter is being investigated under the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“However, we will conduct a detailed investigation into both matters, particularly as the case involves a civil servant,” he told a press conference at the Perak police headquarters in Ipoh.
The headmaster allegedly harassed the student through text messages.
Alwi said police had recorded statements from nine people in the investigation. The case is also being investigated under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for non-physical sexual assault.
On Sunday, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said she had ordered the Perak education department to investigate the allegations against the headmaster.
She said the headmaster had been temporarily moved to the Bagan Datuk education office pending completion of the investigation.
