Melania Trump Series Sets Amazon Release Date

Translate

Amazon Prime Video will release its two-part Melania Trump docuseries on Nov. 20.

The previously announced series, which will include “content never before shared with the public,” is split between two episodes: “Family & Trust,” which follows Trump as she prepares to become the First Lady, and “Pride & Honor,” which takes place moments after the inauguration.

The docuseries follows the theatrical release of “Melania” on Jan. 30 and the film’s streaming release on March 9.

While a press release from Amazon touts “the historic success of ‘Melania, The Film,'” the movie lost tens of millions of dollars. It is true that the film outperformed expectations for a documentary at the box office, garnering $16.6 million worldwide, but considering Amazon paid a whopping $40 million for the rights to “Melania” — plus a $35 million marketing spend — the studio failed to recoup its investment theatrically.

“Melania” is directed by Brett Ratner and executive produced by Trump herself alongside Marc Beckman. Ratner produces with Fernando Sulichin, as well as Muse Films, New Element Media and RatPac Entertainment.

Variety‘s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman hated “Melania, The Film,” calling it a “cheeseball infomercial of staggering inertia.”

“It’s a ‘portrait’ of the First Lady of the United States, but it’s so orchestrated and airbrushed and stage-managed that it barely rises to the level of a shameless infomercial,” he wrote in his review. “Is it cheesy? At moments, but mostly it’s inert. It feels like it’s been stitched together out of the most innocuous outtakes from a reality show. There’s no drama to it. It should have been called ‘Day of the Living Tradwife.'”
