What is Magic Knight Rayearth about?

Magic Knight Rayearth is about three Japanese high school students who find themselves drawn into another world while on a class trip to Tokyo Tower. To return home, they must rescue a princess and save the world using their new magical mechs.

The series combines elements of the magical girl, isekai, and mecha genres in what was very ahead of its time when the manga first ran from 1993 to 1996.
