Thai weightlifter Teerapong Silachai wins Asian Games bronze
NAGOYA, Japan — 24 September 2026, Thailand’s Teerapong Silachai won the bronze medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the 20th Asian Games at Fukiage Hall in Nagoya on Thursday.
Teerapong, the Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist, narrowly avoided a disappointing start in the snatch after failing on his first two attempts.
He recovered on his third attempt, successfully lifting 126kg.
In the clean and jerk, Teerapong lifted 173kg, giving him a total of 299kg and securing the bronze medal.
China’s Yang Yang won gold after lifting 138kg in the snatch and 166kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 304kg, setting a new Asian Games record.
North Korea’s Pak Un-chol took silver with a total of 301kg, lifting 126kg in the snatch and 174kg in the clean and jerk. His total also set a new Asian Games record.
The bronze adds another major international medal to Teerapong’s record after his Olympic silver medal in Paris in 2024.
