Matt Dumba, who spent the first 10 years of his career with the Minnesota Wild, has decided to retire from the NHL after 13 years in the league.

Dumba closed out his career by moving on to the Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and Pittsburgh Penguins. He played with the Penguins in 2025-26, and he had been sent down to their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He was hit in the face with a puck and that sent him to the injured list.

Dumba had been the first-round draft choice of the Minnesota Wild in 2012. He had been the No. 7 pick overall in that draft. He would go on to win the King Clancy Award with the Wild. That award recognizes leadership qualities on and off the ice as well as his contributions within the community. In his case, it was the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

Dumba's most productive years came when he was playing on the Wild blue line from 2015 through 2019. He notched double-digits in goals in each of those seasons.

His most productive year was the 2017-18 season when he scored 14 goals and added 36 assists for 50 points. He played in a league-high 82 games that season and was also plus-15 that season. He proved to be a solid contributor on both ends of the ice. He had 176 shots on goal that year while demonstrating that he could win the battle in the corner and carry the puck out of the defensive zone.
