When people think of Battlestar Galactica, they often picture the 2000s series, but it's hard to believeit actually started in 1978. The original show only lasted one season, but in 2003, it was revived and reimagined. That's the show most people know today, starring Edward James Olmos as William Adama, and Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck.
Many cast members went on to have successful careers, and Battlestar Galactica often comes up at fan, comic, and sci-fi conventions. It's one of those sci-fi shows that ends up in nearly every conversation, and pretty much every fan wants it to come back. Now, there's another release to look out for, thanks to a confirmation from Master Replicas.
Announced by Master Replicas, the Battlestar Galactica (Classic) Prometheus Limited Edition is set to arrive this month, in a limited edition format. Here's all the details:
"In the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica, we were told there were twelve battlestars, though only eight were ever named on screen. Three more battlestar names — Solaria, Cerberus and Prometheus — were waiting in the wings, intended to join the Colonial fleet had the series continued. The Battlestar Prometheus is being made in a limited edition of just 500. One of those long-rumoured additions to the fleet, she takes her place at last alongside the Galactica and her sister ships — a piece of Battlestar Galactica lore realised for the very first time. This classic-era battlestar is made from die-cast and ABS, and measures 10.5 inches in length. This is a limited edition that will ship to customers in October."
Other products include the Galactica Muffit II, Blood and Chrome Viper, Blood and Chrome Cylon Raider, the Viper Mk 7, the modern Battlestar Pegasus, and the classic Galactica. Many of these figures are in stock.
Battlestar Galactica revivals have been happening for ages. Several have been canceled, and a few are in limbo. We almost got a new show for Peacock produced by Sam Esmail of Mr. Robot fame, but it never came to fruition. For now, we'll have to wait and see if any of these revivals actually happen.
One shining example of Battlestar Galactica at its best, however, isthe 2008 Fantasy Flight Games-developed board game. While you need to wrangle 3-6 players to actually get it on the table, it's a unique experience that asks players to take on hidden roles while they play. Plenty of interesting asynchronous gameplay will mix things up, and you'll need to find out who the Cylons are before it's too late.
On the gaming front, we recently got the solid Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes, which sees players jump back into the sci-fi universe for RTS adventure. The game has largely positive reviews on Steam, and is definitely worth a look if you want to scratch a very specific itch
As Battlestar Galactica fans know, time marches on, and another year has passed without concrete news of a revival. But these statue releases are some of the next best things.
