Man City handed huge injury boost as Enzo Maresca issues two-man update ahead of Manchester United showdown

Manchester City could welcome Nico O’Reilly back into the fold ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby.

The left-back has been out of action since the 4-1 victory at Crystal Palace, having pulled out of the side ahead of their 1-0 win over Coventry City last weekend.

The England international pulled up in the warm-up at the Etihad Stadium, prompting Maresca into a quickfire change that saw Enzo Fernandez handed an earlier than anticipated debut following his £125million move from Chelsea.

The Argentine was then back in the double pivot for the 2-0 win at Porto in the Champions League in midweek, partnered by fellow new recruit Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Now, however, O’Reilly, who has featured at left-back and in the engine room under the new manager this term, is ready to return to action ahead of City’s trip to Old Trafford.

“He is 100 per cent avaialble,” Maresca said of the 21-year-old, who had been dealing with a minor back issue.

Meanwhile, however, there was less good news when it came to Belgian winger Jeremy Doku, who has been struggling with a calf problem that he picked up in the Community Shield defeat by Arsenal.

The forward was subbed at half time in Cardiff, and was seen icing his leg on the bench as his side fell to a 3-0 loss to the Premier League champions.

“Jeremy, I think he needs some more days,” the Italian said, ruling him out of the upcoming derby this Sunday.

City have won all four games so far this term under Maresca, with a 100 per cent record in the Premier League and a victory on opening night in the Champions League.
