Asian Games 2026: Why Indian squash star Anahat Singh is wearing protective eyewear while playing

Anahat Singh has already created history by becoming the first-ever Indian squash player to win a silver in the women’s singles category at the Asian Games in the ongoing edition in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

On Monday, the 18-year-old sensation was back in action for India’s second group-stage match in the women’s team competition against Japan where she was up against World No. 6 Satomi Watanabe, a player she had stunned in the singles semifinals.

In all of Anahat’s matches so far, including the singles final against Malaysian World No. 5 Sivasangari Subramaniam, one thing that has also stood out apart from her talent, technique and skills is the use of protective eyewear. Most of her opponents, however, haven’t use eyewear.

For Anahat, it has been a part of her squash journey from the beginning due to World Squash Federation’s (WSF) rule and regulations.

According to WSF’s rules, it is mandatory for juniors (defined as under 19 years of age on the last scheduled day of the event) to wear appropriate protective eyewear at all times during play to avoid the risk of injuries and it is the responsibility of the player to ensure that the quality of the product worn is satisfactory for the purpose.
