Clive Barker Teases ‘Hellraiser: Revival’ Video Game Has Reignited “Many Ideas” For Film Franchise: “Planning To Keep My Fingers In That Pie”

Nearly 40 years after first opening the Lament Configuration on screen, Clive Barker is ready to explore pain and pleasure again in the Hellraiser film franchise.
With the recent release of the Saber Interactive’s Hellraiser: Revival video game, the writer/director of the original 1987 horror movie, which was based on his own book, teased that he has “many ideas” of where to take the franchise next.
“I think what was achieved in the game is a wake-up call to anyone who’s been involved in the making of a franchise like Hellraiser,” he told Dread Central.
“It says to get your ideas warmed over so you can go back into existing worlds in a brand new way,” added Barker. “I have many ideas that I’d like to see realized in the Hellraiser universe, and I’m planning to keep my fingers in that pie.”
Based on his 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, Barker wrote and directed the first Hellraiser movie the following year, introducing audiences to Pinhead (Doug Bradley) and his Cenobites. The franchise has since sparked 11 movies, multiple books, comics, video games and more.
Barker successfully reclaimed U.S. rights to the Hellraiser franchise in 2020, joining the 2022 David-Bruckner helmed Hulu reboot as a producer.
